Skin is one of the body’s most important organs due to its important functions. However, as it plays these functions, the skin will likely suffer other damages. One of the common conditions is skin cancer. Even though this condition is usually hard to treat at later stages, it is one of the most curable if caught early, prompting people to go for regular Cypress skin cancer checkups. The following are the common causes that increase the risk of skin cancer.

    Fair Skin

Most people have associated skin cancer with the condition of people with light skin. Even though every individual is likely to suffer skin cancer, most people with less pigment (melanin) are at a higher risk of getting skin cancer. The main reason is the skin will offer them less protection from the UV radiation that could damage their skin. Furthermore, individuals with light-colored eyes and blond or red hair are likely to freckle or experience sunburn easily. This will increase the risk of suffering skin cancer.

    Excessive Sunburn

One of the main reasons why people suffer skin cancer results from having a series of sunburns. Every individual who spends most time in the sun is likely to develop skin cancer. The risk is high when people have yet to protect themselves with sunscreen or clothing. The tanning, which can result from tanning lamps or beds, also increases the risk. The tan is a skin injury response to excessive UV radiation that the person could be having.

    Weakened Immune System

The individual’s immune system is critical since it protects the person from some health conditions. In most instances, people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of skin cancer. For example, most people having HIV/AIDS are at a higher risk of suffering from this condition. Furthermore, you are likely to have skin cancer if you are taking immunosuppressant drugs after recently having an organ transplant.

    Moles

Moles also increase the risk of a person having skin cancer. The trouble is serious if the person has many large moles that are abnormally shaped. It is easy to trace these moles since the abnormal moles are irregularly larger than the normal ones. These are the ones that are at a higher risk of becoming cancerous. If you previously had abnormal moles, you should monitor any change you could be having.

    Precancerous Skin Lesions

There are some instances where skin lesions known as actinic keratoses increase the risk of a person having skin cancer. When the person has these skin growths, they are likely to appear rough, scaly patches ranging from brown to dark pink. This appearance is common on the individual’s face, hands, or heads of fair-skinned people who have suffered sun damage.

Skin cancer is one of the conditions that most people fear. The main reason is it is hard to treat if the person notices it in the later stages. However, the person can reduce the risk of suffering the condition by employing a healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, the person can reduce the risk by having regular checkups since the disease can be easily treated early. Visit the dermatologist near you for a checkup and advice on lowering cancer risk.
