How has Sclerotherapy Changed Over the Years?

Varicose vein treatment choices are now quick and simple, but this was not always the case. Medical research always pushes the boundaries of what we know about health problems and remedies. What appeared to be a groundbreaking method years ago may become obsolete when research uncovers newer, safer alternatives. Varicose vein therapy has evolved, and treatment choices are now more successful than ever. Patients can now get varicose vein treatment without invasive, unpleasant surgery. For more information on boise varicose veins, speak to a professional today.

The old way of treating varicose veins

Vein ligation and stripping were once the standard therapy for varicose veins. While this was considered minor surgery, general anesthesia was necessary, and several patients had to stay in the hospital overnight.

Recovery following vein litigation and stripping can be excruciatingly painful, and complications are always possible. Infections and other problems, such as anesthetic difficulties, are possible. Many people prefer to live with varicose veins rather than have surgery due to the lengthy recovery period and potential complications.

People, thankfully, no longer have to make that decision.

New treatment options for varicose veins

You can now undergo modern, minimally invasive varicose vein treatments. With all of its side effects and problems, general anesthesia is no longer required. Most procedures require just local anesthesia and take less than 30 minutes. There is also the added benefit of being able to go home immediately following the surgery and resume normal activities the same or the next day. Furthermore, minimally invasive therapies have fewer risks and problems, so they are far safer than surgery.

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), Radiofrequency ablation (RFA), VenaSeal, and sclerotherapy are all common treatments for varicose veins. The veins collapse as a result of these minimally invasive therapies. It means that blood is unable to flow through the varicose veins. The body redirects the blood to the healthy veins, restoring normal leg circulation.

Once the veins are sealed, they will degrade over time and be resorbed by the body for several weeks and months. The effects may be fairly striking, with the bulging veins resolved and the legs seeming more normal.

These procedures are quite successful, and the varicose veins will not return. However, you may develop new varicose veins due to genetics or lifestyle factors. Your varicose vein expert will discuss what you may do to reduce the chances of the veins recurring. You can have another minimally invasive procedure if you develop varicose veins again. With low downtime and quick recoveries, going through many treatments, if necessary, will be no problem.
